In today’s era of modern manufacturing, industrial efficiency is paramount. However, as technology advances, so do the risks and complexities associated with electrical maintenance.

Many manufacturers have faced the challenge of managing aging electrical infrastructure while integrating new automation technologies. This often results in increased risks of arc flashes, unexpected downtime, and costly compliance failures.

In a sector where even minor disruptions can lead to significant financial losses, choosing the right innovations to ensure the reliability and safety of electrical systems becomes critical. This is where Grace Technologies’ new ChekVolt variants can be a game-changer.

What is ChekVolt?

ChekVolt is an advanced voltage indicator designed to improve safety and efficiency in electrical maintenance. By mounting directly on electrical enclosures, ChekVolt allows workers to verify the presence of voltage without needing to open the panel, significantly reducing the risk of arc flash and electric shock. The ChekVolt device provides clear visual indicators that help ensure that circuits are de-energized before maintenance begins, streamlining safety procedures and reducing downtime.

ChekVolt is available in three distinct variants, each engineered to meet the specific needs of different industrial environments:

  • ChekVolt® AC3: Optimised for environments with single-phase power up to 1000VAC, providing reliable voltage testing for specialised industrial equipment. This variant is ideal for heavy industrial environments, ensuring safety in high-demand AC systems.
  • ChekVolt® DC2: Perfect for applications like solar panels and electric vehicle charging stations, supporting two-wire DC systems up to 10000VDC.
  • ChekVolt® DC3: Designed for three-wire DC systems up to 1000VDC, ensuring compatibility with specific installation standards and featuring a separate ground-neutral connection.

How ChekVolt transforms industrial operations

ChekVolt offers a straightforward solution to common challenges in industrial settings. These include:

  1. Enhanced safety – ChekVolt paves the way for a non-contact verification method that drastically reduces the risk of arc flash and electric shock. This ensures that maintenance personnel can perform their tasks with greater confidence. Additionally, ChekVolt meets NFPA 70E standards, simplifying compliance with safety regulations and further safeguarding the workforce.
  2. Operational efficiency – ChekVolt is designed to enhance operational efficiency by streamlining Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Traditionally, verifying the absence of voltage involves opening the enclosure—a process that can be both time-consuming and hazardous. With ChekVolt, these tests can be conducted without opening the enclosure, reducing LOTO procedure times by 35-45 minutes.
  3. Versatility and adaptability – ChekVolt’s three specialized variants—AC3, DC2, and DC3—are tailored to meet the diverse needs of various industrial environments. Whether dealing with single-phase AC systems, two-wire DC setups, or complex three-wire DC systems, there is a ChekVolt variant designed to fit specific requirements. This versatility makes ChekVolt a valuable asset across different sectors, from heavy manufacturing to renewable energy installations.
  4. Cost Efficiency – By reducing downtime through quicker LOTO procedures and enhancing safety, the device can provide a rapid return on investment. The efficiency gains and reduced risk of accidents contribute to lower overall operational costs, making ChekVolt a smart financial choice for any industrial operation.

ChekVolt’s versatility and adaptability make it suitable for various applications, offering industries a reliable tool to meet their operational needs effectively.

Traditional methods of voltage testing involve time-consuming processes that expose workers to potential hazards, creating a critical need for innovation. In the manufacturing industry, where safety and efficiency are often at odds, finding a solution that can address both can be a challenge.

ChekVolt can step in to address this gap, offering a fresh approach that not only enhances safety but also streamlines operations. To read more about ChekVolt and its lineup of new variants, visit colterlec.com.au.

GME, an Australian-owned communication technology manufacturer, has launched the new XRS-660 Handheld UHF CB Radio, designed to help Australians stay in touch even in mobile phone black spot areas.

Only 27 per cent of Australia’s landmass is reached by mobile phone reception, making it more important for Aussies to be equipped with technology that will enable them to stay connected even in the most isolated areas.

The XRS-660 has built-in GPS functionality that ensures true location awareness without relying on a smartphone to provide location data.

The device is also the first Handheld UHF CB Radio to feature a Colour TFT LCD screen, providing the “ultimate handheld radio display” for all environmental conditions, GME said in a media release.

The radio features Bluetooth audio connectivity, allowing it to wirelessly connect to an extensive range of third-party audio accessories, providing users with new and improved ways to stay connected.

“For Aussies travelling or working in remote and regional areas, staying in touch is vital to ensuring they get home safe. That’s why GME is proud to launch the XRS-660 – the first-ever XRS handheld radio with GPS tracking capabilities,” said GME safety expert Tony Crooke.

“Building on the market-leading innovation of GME’s popular range of XRS Connect UHF CB radios, Australians can now have total peace of mind knowing they can communicate with their fellow travellers or workers all while their live location is visible, without mobile phone service.”

The XRS-660 Handheld UHF CB Radio has a recommended retail price of $549. For more information visit gme.net.au

Australian benchtop manufacturer SilkSurface has announced that researchers from the University of Adelaide confirmed that its new product is a true and silica-free alternative to engineered stone

The company kickstarted the search for alternative quality kitchen stone benchtops as the future of engineered stone became unclear.

“Today we can confirm that this product has been proven 100 per cent silica-free through independent testing undertaken by the University of Adelaide’s School of Public Health,” said Ben Scott, managing director of SilkSurface.

“For some time, we have been developing a product to provide customers with an alternative to engineered stone prior to the Government’s discussion around its future in homes and offices.”

Scott said the research initiative is a testament to the industry’s efforts to respond innovatively to government regulation and the public’s demand for a quality product that is affordable, looks good, and can be manufactured in a way that is safe for workers.

“Our product, SilkSurface offers the same look and feel of engineered stone with great durability, improved stain resistance and excellent heat resistant qualities,” the company’s managing director added.

“SilkSurface is easily installed as it is compatible with the current machinery used by cabinet makers and stone masons.”

By perfecting a manufacturing technique, the company said its product recreates the look and feel of natural stone using safe materials.

The product uses a blend of bauxite (aluminium hydroxide) and a polyester binder and is formed under 400 tonnes of pressure before being diamond-polished to create a hard and durable surface. It can be cut, sanded, and polished like timber, according to the company.

“SilkSurface is easily installed as it is compatible with the current machinery used by cabinet makers and stone masons,” Scott added.

The product is expected to hit the shelves in early 2024.

Australian manufacturer Harvest B is bringing its plant-based protein products directly to consumers through HealthyLife.com.au, a Woolworths-owned online platform.

The online retailer will stock six Harvest B products including dice and shred products in lamb, chicken, beef, and pork styles.

Martine Cooper, HealthyLife’s general manager for merchandise and partnerships, said the addition of Harvest B’s products to the online platform broadens the appeal and market reach of plant proteins.

“HealthyLife prides itself on making good food and good food choices accessible to more Australians. The addition of Harvest B’s Australian-made and developed protein products means that more Australians seeking to reduce their meat intake, boost protein consumption or just try something new – will be able to do so via our site,” Cooper said.

Kristi Riordan, CEO and co-founder of Harvest B, said the company’s decision to expand to direct-to-customer sales is the result of sustained demand from the market.

“HealthyLife gives us the ability to reach a broad consumer audience while addressing market demands for tasty, healthy, versatile and sustainable protein products,” said Riordan.

“While we remain focused on supplying our products to food manufacturers and food service providers, the move to consumer sales in partnership with HealthyLife is an exciting step for the business and an endorsement of our product,” said Riordan.

Harvest B’s technology produces whole pieces of plant proteins, similar in texture to meat, without the need for artificial binders and additives that plant-based meats have traditionally needed. Rehydrated in a brine of water and natural spices Harvest B’s products achieve a neutral taste and pleasing texture in a form that has not been available before.

Made in Australia from Wheat grown in New South Wales, Harvest B’s shelf-stable and clean-label proteins will be available in 330-350g packs.

Designed to suit vegans, vegetarians, and meat eaters alike, the new range of consumer-range products offers a range of benefits, including 4.5 Health Star Rating, protein and source of dietary fibre, low saturated fats and sugar, non-GMO and no methylcellulose. The products also have no artificial colours, flavours, or preservatives, and are certified Halal.

Harvest B’s 1kg protein products are now available via HealthLife.com.au and will retail for $18.99.

South Australia’s beverage brand Halls is back in action, bringing with it the nostalgia of classic soft drinks that have been a part of South Australian culture for generations.

In a news release, the government announced that the production of beloved beverages such as Halls Lemonade, Lemon Twist, and Fruita is now in full swing, with consumers anticipating their return to store shelves in the coming months.

The revival of Halls’ soft drinks is taking place at the former MOJO Kombucha production facility located in Willunga.

This facility became available when Coca-Cola exited the Kombucha market, leaving a promising opportunity for Halls to rekindle its production.

To support the return of Halls, the South Australian Government has made a substantial contribution of $500,000 from the Thriving Regions Fund to facilitate the operation of the Willunga bottling facility.

According to the government, this assistance is not only a boost for the iconic brand but also an investment in the local economy and workforce.

Halls’ commitment to its revival is evident in its rehiring of five former staff members, and there are plans for further expansion.

The brand has a storied history in South Australia, with its roots dating back to 1849 when George Hall established the brand at a site in Marryatville.

Over time, his sons joined the business, and by 1872, the company had moved to larger premises in Norwood, east of Adelaide.

Fast forward a century, and Halls became a part of the Coca-Cola family, continuing its production at the Thebarton bottling plant until its discontinuation in 2000. Now, with a fresh start and an appreciation for its rich heritage, Halls is reintroducing its classic soft drinks to the market.

These beloved beverages are making a return in their classic glass bottles. The production of the 330mL bottles is already underway, and soon, one-litre varieties will join the production line, ensuring that Halls’ fans can once again enjoy the taste they know and love.

South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas expressed his nostalgia, stating, “I, like many South Australians have fond memories of Halls soft drinks, and I know many will leap at the chance to get another taste of Fruita, Lemon Twist or Halls Lemonade.”

He continued, “I’m very pleased my Government can play a role in helping re-establish this icon, in a key part of our state, creating jobs and industry.”

Meanwhile, Cameron Ballard, CEO of Halls, expressed gratitude for the public’s overwhelming interest and support, saying, “The level of public interest and support surrounding the come back of Halls Soft Drinks has been quite unbelievable, and extremely humbling.”

“We are beyond excited to now be in production and nearing the day that South Australians can finally enjoy Halls once again,” he stated.

Australian honey brand Capilano announced the launch of its new hot sauce ‘Hot Chilli Honey’ made with 100 per cent Aussie honey from local beekeepers spiced up with habanero pepper flakes.

In response to Australians’ love of hot and spicy cuisine, Capilano said its new Hot Chilli Honey does not have preservatives and is ideal for drizzling over a wide variety of foods, including pizza, wings, ribs, and burgers, or giving avocado toast a unique spin.

The company revealed its Hot Chilli Honey blends 100 per cent pure Australian honey from Capilano’s network of over 800 Australian beekeepers with savoury, spicy specks of habanero chilli to create honey suited for use as a condiment.

General Manager for Innovation Fiona Tavian said the company is aware that Australians are constantly seeking novel ways to spice up their meals and value using natural products.

“Chilli honey is the perfect way to add a sweet-savoury spicy kick to their foods, with the average household consuming chilli every ten days and one survey suggesting five million adults enjoy hot sauce once a week,” Tavian noted.

She further said, “What a great way to support Aussie beekeepers by tapping into this huge appetite for Chilli products! Our Hot Chilli Honey is a convenient, versatile and mouth-watering addition to the pantry that we think will be a hit with customers young and old, for home-cooked and takeaway foods.”

According to research, males under 35 and Australians are particularly attracted to a chilli hit, and up to 500,000 individuals incorporate spicy sauces in their diet every day, thus the need for chilli is expected to increase, Capilano said.

“While Capilano has been around for 70 years, we are always looking to innovate and make honey feel new and exciting for cooking and baking,” Tavian stated.

She added, “We are sure Australians are going to love our Hot Chilli Honey.”

Capilano’s $7.50 340g squeeze pack of Hot Chilli Honey is already available at Woolworths and will be available in Coles shops on 2 October.
